The bearing blocks are assembled between the camshaft components (camlobes, DI pump lobes, timing pin) as per the engine design, the quantity and position is according to the engine specification. The assembling of the bearing blocks is part of the camshaft assembly process.

During the subsequent grinding process the camshaft bearing blocks are protected. The position of the camshaft in the bearing blocks during grinding is representative of the position later in the cylinder head.
